50 years ago, Justice John Marshall Harlan, in a concurring opinion said that "a fundamental value of our society, is that it is far worse to convict an innocent person than to let a guilty man go free." in reality, and sadly, it's not an either/or proposition. For when we convict an innocent man we do both.
